Beauty Abroad, Part 17: Kiko Infinity Eyeshadow #264

In my review of Sephora Formula X Enigma, the nail polish that sparked my love for teal, I mentioned that I wanted to try a teal eyeshadow. It didn't take me long to find a suitable one, so here we are with my second London beauty buy : Kiko Infinity Eyeshadow #264, a green-toned teal with subtle gold glitter. Kiko describes it as "Sparkling Green." Last year , I made the mistake of buying two bulky compacts in which to house my Infinity shadows; this time, wiser by a year, I bought only the pan. The pan has a snap-on plastic lid that makes it ideal for traveling. I really appreciate beauty brands that make the effort to produce minimalist packaging, though Kiko sort of ruins that effort by pressuring customers to buy the unnecessary compacts. I wish I had held on to the plastic lids from my other two Kiko shadows, because it's so hard to transport them in their compacts! Live and learn, I suppose. Since all the Infinity eyeshadows were over 50% off at the Regent S...

Let Us Now Praise Formula X Enigma

Until recently, teal was one of my least favorite colors. It unsettled me in the same way that fuchsia used to: both are amphibious, ill-defined colors. But one swipe of fuchsia lipstick in the summer of 2011 banished my unease forever, and I've just experienced a similar conversion to teal. It started when I looked at swatch photos of Essie's Spring 2015 collection and found myself drawn to Garden Variety, a bright, blue-leaning teal creme. I almost bought it, but I decided to look for a cruelty-free version instead, despite my usual aversion to dupe-hunting . Serendipity, in the form of Teresa's Instagram , put Sephora Formula X Enigma on my radar, and I bought it during a brief trip to New York last weekend. As a bonus, it matched the dress I was wearing that day: (FYI, though Sephora claims that the Formula X brand is cruelty-free, it does appear to be sold in China. Whether or not that destroys its cruelty-free status depends on your personal stance on the issue.) I ...

Beauty Abroad, Part 7: Rimmel ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in Blamed Blue

I'm back in the land of decent coffee and 97% humidity! No, that figure isn't an exaggeration. The summer humidity in this part of the Mid-Atlantic is out of control. Early June isn't all that hot, but I can't spend five minutes outside without feeling moisture pool in my scalp and eyebrows and the space between my eyelids and eye sockets. Gross. In such conditions, there's no point in wearing powder eyeshadow; the most masterful blending and shading will melt and smudge into nothing. Best to rely on cream shadow or, better yet, eyeliner. Enter one of my purchases from England: Rimmel ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in Blamed Blue, an iridescent teal. I picked it up on the same day I bought my Rimmel lip lacquer and Sleek blush ; Superdrug was having a 3-for-2 sale and I wanted to try some eye makeup in a color I'd never actually spend money on. The ScandalEyes line contained some neutral colors that I knew would be more versatile, but I couldn't pass up that be...
